Charlotte Leslie makes an appeal on behalf of Westbury-on-Trym branch of the Royal British Legion.
Charlotte writes:
“With our troops facing terrible risks in Afghanistan even as we speak, the message of Remembrance Day resonated particularly poignantly this year; That Remembrance Day is not only about remembering those who gave their lives in previous wars, but those who are risking, and all too often, sacrificing their lives today. The Royal British Legion plays an enormous role in keeping memories alive, and supporting our existing armed forces community.
I would therefore like to say thank you to the Westbury-on-Trym branch of the Royal British Legion for providing such a warm welcome after the Remembrance Day procession and wreath-laying in the village. The importance of keeping these local branches afloat cannot be overestimated – but they do not operate by themselves; they need fresh new faces and volunteers.
At their AGM on 23rd November, the Westbury-on-Trym branch will be making an appeal for new people to step forward and get involved with the management committee. Without new, fresh faces coming to take over from previous generations, there is a very real danger this valuable local branch could fold.
So if you would like to do your bit to support our brave servicemen, ex-servicemen and their families, come along to the Westbury-onTrym Royal British Legion AGM – it’s from 7.30pm, Monday 23rd November at the branch HQ on College Road, Westbury-on-Trym. Or call Peter Taplin on 0117 9505660 or email charlotte@charlotteleslie.com to find out more.
