The community in Southmead came together for the Grand Final of Southmead’s big karaoke contest. The afternoon was a great success, with entertainment from local groups sponsored by the Southmead Carol Bus – D Streets Dance Troop, and the Southmead Pride Majorettes.
The climax of the afternoon was a very closely contested karaoke contest, featuring local singers aged between 11 and 71. Joining Charlotte Leslie on the celebrity panel were former Bristol Rovers captain, Vaughan Jones, and Bristol’s very own boxing world champion, Glenn Catley. Glenn is the former WBC Super Middleweight world champion, and as the audience were to discover later, is also a bit of a singer.
The standard of singing was very high and it was a tight contest. But local singer, Ronda, was the eventual singer, with Leanne a close second, and Paige a very strong third. In addition, it was a superb community event with all proceeds going towards the Southmead Carol Bus Appeal, which raises money for local community projects.
Commenting, Charlotte said:
“Well done to all contestants who provided a wonderful afternoon of entertainment, and to D Streets Dance Troop and Southmead Majorettes. It all goes to show that Southmead is the home of an enormous amount of local talent, and thanks to the hard work of the people behind the scenes, making it all happen, that talent is being given an outlet, which is great to see.”

A special thanks must go to Cliff of Cliff’s Florists, Greystoke Avenue, for organising the event and making it such a success.
