Conservative pressure has forced the Labour-run City Council to back down on plans to abandon support for Adult Education courses in Bristol.
Vital services based at the popular centres in Southmead and Stoke Bishop would have been hardest hit. Stoke Lodge is the largest provider of personal development courses in the city, helping to turn people’s lives around, and many students alarmed by the plans had contacted Charlotte.
Speaking after the about-turn, Charlotte Leslie said:
“Conservatives believe that education is for life and that’s why we support learners of all ages. Nevertheless, the Labour Government has slashed funding from success stories such as Stoke Lodge to pay for their compulsory education programme. Fortunately, pressure from Bristol Conservatives and the many people who use Stoke Lodge and other facilities, has forced a timely reversal in their plans. Rest assured, local Conservatives will continue to keep a watchful eye on future developments.”
